Statement

JP

I am drawn to the subtle distance, tension, and shifts in perception that arise between myself and the world.

Through reflections, structures, and traces, I seek to preserve in photographs the beauty that emerges within relationships that feel almost touchable, yet never fully touched.

By capturing moments when the world, seemingly stable, begins to quietly waver, I aim to create work that gently changes the way we see.

On the work

Quiet Studies
Structure studies
Mirror Studies

For me, photography is a way of remeasuring my distance from the world.
In TRILOGY, I looked at the space between the inner self and the world through emotion and prayer; in Quiet Studies, I explored small points of contact and moments of breath within stillness and emptiness. In Structure studies, that gaze turned toward the city and the urban environment, confronting structure and pressure while bringing out the tension and abstraction latent in reality. In Mirror Studies, through the motif of the mirror, I trace subtle dislocations and signs of defamiliarization that emerge within the familiar world.

For me, the world is not something smoothly continuous, but a place where fragments and traces appear through their relations to one another. Though these works take different forms, what runs through them all is an attention to the distance, tension, and shifts in recognition between myself and the world, and to the moments when those fluctuations begin to emerge.
